Overview

You make decisions and solve problems all day, every day. Every organization must be nimble when solving new and recurring challenges, and everyone within the organization must be able to use critical thinking and creative problem solving to act on these challenges. We all have the ability to think critically but we may not use this on a consistent basis. We may not have honed our critical thinking skills consciously. We don't automatically look at what we learned from making a decision or solving a problem and formally integrate it into our standard operating procedure. We jump into firefighting mode too quickly and miss many opportunities for better outcomes.

In this program, you will learn how to make effective decisions and solve problems successfully using critical thinking and simple, practical tools. Apply critical thinking techniques to everything you do. Avoid the tendency to start solving a problem before it is clearly defined. Admit to poor decisions and take corrective action, even if it’s tough. Get the results you need as you become more efficient, confident, and proficient.

Why you should Attend

We are called on to make decisions and solve problems every day. Sometimes we do not have much information to go on. Sometimes we must respond quickly and end up in firefighting mode but never take care of the root cause. The problem comes back again and again. We go into any situation with many hidden assumptions and biases. When faced with something entirely new, we don't have a guide to figure out how to analyze and deal with the problem. We seldom use lessons learned from the situation to improve our ability to think critically, make better decisions, or solve problems more effectively.

As a result of this program you will learn to:

  • Solve problems and make effective decisions using critical thinking and simple, practical tools
  • Increase decision accuracy even when information is limited
  • Minimize poor decisions; neutralize the effects of stress, emotions, and distractions on decisions
  • Use critical thinking to challenge all assumptions and seek alternative information
